Safeguarding
Safeguarding is not an optional extra; it is at the heart of everything we do at Fowey River Academy. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where every child is protected and their well-being is a top priority. Safeguarding is embedded in our practices and policies, ensuring that all students can thrive and grow in a secure setting
HOW WE PRACTICE
Safeguarding at Fowey
The terms "child protection" and "safeguarding" are frequently used interchangeably, but they have different meanings.
-
‘Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children’ is defined as:
-
Protecting children and young people from maltreatment
-
Preventing the impairment of their health or development
-
Ensuring that they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
-
Enabling them to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully
If you are worried about online sexual abuse or the way someone has been communicating with you please click the CEOP button below:
CEOP Safety Centre
CEOP helps any child or young person under the age of 18 who is being pressured, forced, or tricked into taking part in sexual activity of any kind. You can visit the CEOP Safety Centre for information and advice and make a report directly to CEOP.

PROMOTING THE WELFARE OF CHILDREN
Commitment to Safeguarding
Fowey River Academy is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment, ensuring the safety and well-being of every student.
Safeguarding Policies and Procedures
The school has a Whole School Safeguarding Policy and associated procedures to ensure that any Safeguarding or Child Protection concerns are addressed efficiently and appropriately. This policy outlines the steps and guidelines that all staff must follow to protect the well-being of children.
Zero Tolerance to Abuse
Any form of abuse—whether sexual, physical, verbal, or mental—is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated within our community. The safety and welfare of our students are paramount, and we are committed to maintaining a safe environment free from harm.

Student WorkFIREFLY At FRA, we use an online workspace called Firefly. Inside Firefly, you will be able to see: your child’s weekly schedule lesson outlines and exemplar work revision topics homework tasks Both you and your child will receive login details. You will be able to see the work that your child is completing on a week by week basis, view their homework task list and see which topics have been flagged for revision.

Student CommunicationsEach student at the academy has access to GSuite. The Google system allows students to create, edit, share online resources and email facilities.

Parent CommunicationsAt Fowey we use a number of different ways to communicate with parents. First and foremost, we will always communicate with you personally about your child via ParentMail and/or about important matters relating to the school. We may at times also send messages out via social media as this is sometimes a quicker way to get the message out, but ParentMail will always be our preferred choice for important messages. ParentMail is a system used at Fowey River Academy which helps improve communications between school and parents. Your account can be accessed from your computer or by using the free mobile app. ParentMail is an email and text messaging system which is personalised to you, which makes it quick and easy for the Academy to send communication, messages and letters to parents. ParentMail also handles online payments to the academy. Edulink Edulink will keep you up-to-date with how your child is performing in school on a lesson-by-lesson basis. You will be able to see when they gain a merit and hopefully no behaviour points. It will also keep you informed about attendance and punctuality. https://www.edulinkone.com/

Social Media & Other ChannelsWe use social media to compliment ParentMail when sending important information, but also to promote all the things that we do at FRA. Social Media is an important tool for engaging with parents and we aim to be very responsive via a number of messaging services through social media. Please be aware that if we have important information, ParentMail will always be our preferred choice of communication with social media used as a backup.
