The Headteacher
Welcome to Fowey River Academy. As Headteacher, I am proud to lead a school that places students at the heart of everything we do. We are a vibrant and forward-thinking secondary school set in a stunning location overlooking the Fowey estuary, with a strong sense of community and a commitment to each individual student’s success.
Since I joined the school in 2019, we have made significant strides in our development and improvement journey. These changes have included the introduction of one-to-one iPads, ensuring every student has access to high-quality digital learning, and a renewed focus on high expectations, strong relationships, and excellent teaching and learning.
We are currently part way through a £6 million refurbishment project to improve our facilities further and create a modern, inspiring environment where students can thrive.
I firmly believe that positive relationships are at the core of a successful school experience. At Fowey River Academy, we know our students well. We work hard to develop them into well-rounded, respectful, and responsible young people who achieve strong academic outcomes and contribute positively to the local community.
Our recent improvement in GCSE outcomes reflects the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our students, and the support of our families. In 2024, we were delighted to see our results move to "average", following significant progress from well below average in 2022 and below average in 2023.
We are ambitious for every student. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or through wider enrichment opportunities, our goal is to give each young person the best possible foundation for their future.
